The dilemma of wearing a masquerade mask for those that are spectacle wearers has long been a difficulty.

Should you be attending a masquerade ball you still desire to take component in the most crucial aspect of the event, the wearing of a mask. However discovering a masquerade mask that may fit comfortably over glasses is actually a nightmare but you'll find a couple of alternatives open to you.

The simplest way round the glasses issue is to simply purchase a masquerade mask on a stick. With this mask you merely hold the mask in front of your face as a result leaving your glasses totally unscathed.

This kind of mask also has the advantage of not messing up your hairstyle, a great consideration for ladies that have spent time and income acquiring it just proper! Any mask could be added to a stick and most companies offer you this option meaning that you simply aren't restricted to narrow range of masks.

Many masquerade goers do not need to hold a stick all night or really feel that a stick mask is not the same as wearing a masquerade mask.

This is where the option of mask gets very tricky. Some retailers will claim that some masquerade masks could be worn over glasses but having been within the market for six years I've still yet to locate 1 which is completely comfy and secure for your glasses.

If the glasses are tiny then you could get away with wearing a soft unstructured mask. Even so, even with these bear in mind to get the mask to remain in place you have to secure it firmly around the head. In doing this you'll push the glasses back into the face, not comfortable or very good for the glasses.

In my opinion the only sensible option in the event you wear glasses and want to actually wear a mask is to wear one without having any structure to it at all. For men this might be a bandit style mask in soft suede of for girls a softly draping lace mask as noticed on quite a few catwalks lately.

We at Venetian Masquerade Masks are at the moment looking at new designs to overcome this issue and hope to roll them out soon.

The last option and I believe this is actually a really ingenious idea it to paint a mask onto your face employing face paints. I've observed some gorgeous designs utilizing a mirade of colours to produce "masks" that rival any conventional mask. Once painted, all you do is pop your glasses back on and your ready to go.

Masquerade masks were originally designed in Italy to provide a form of diversion to the townfolk during festival months, and stuck on swiftly as, once hidden behind a mask, the gentlemen and women could publicly mix with the commoners throughout event. Old Italian law stipulated both groups were not permitted to mingle, a law in the event that, if violated could result in extreme consequences. Despite the face of such penalty, the noblemen and also clergy would conceal themselves and talk together with the commoners, doing their best to ferret out costly political information from them. The construction of the masquerade mask could be as simple or as detailed as the inventor could visualise. Because beads, ribbon and feathers were ordinarily abundant and vibrant, they were widely used objects in masks. After their inception in Italy, the reputation of the masquerade mask dispersed instantly globally.

Types of Venetian Masks

There are five standard Venetian mask types which are produced with leather, paper mache or with the application of gesso and gold leaf. The Bauta mask, with its square jawline, pointed chin without any mouth, disguised the face for complete anonymity. The Bauta is one of the earliest Venetian masks, whose true name is Larva, which means ghost mask. The Bauta mask was made with a jutting beaked front, allowing its wearer to both eat and drink while staying masked-the design also changed the tone of the user's voice, adding further to the mystery. The Bauta was always either black or white and was the one mask which was not worn primarily at carnival times; it was actually necessary for women to wear the Bauta mask when enjoying an evening at the theater.

The attractive black velvet oval mask, thought to enhance the womanly characteristics, is known as a Moretta or Servetta Mutta, indicating a mute maid servant, possibly since the wearer was unable to speak a result of the masks style. The Moretta mask was created in France but became quite the rage among Venetian women who wore it while visiting the convent, perhaps to help ensure their silence. Although the original Moretta mask was held in place through a button clenched between the user's teeth, todays Moretta masks use ties.

The Larva or Volto masquerade mask is practically all white, likely worn along with a tri- cornered hat to finish the costume. Much like the Bauta, the shape of the mask permitted the individual to breathe and drink, and thus there was no desire to remove it and reveal ones identity. The Larva masks were made of fine wax cloth, and were fairly easy to carry, making them suitable for eating, dancing-and flirting!

The Columbino mask was a half-mask, held up onto the face by a baton or tied with a ribbon. It was a gorgeous actress from the sixteenth century who inspired the Columbino; it had been rumored that she considered herself too attractive to conceal her whole face. Combine masks are usually fashioned with fur, feathers, jewels, gold, silver and crystals.

The Medico Della Peste mask (The Plague Doctor). A French Physician by the name of Charles de Lorme was the masks developer who basically designed the mask as a safety measure for treating people with the plague. Medico Della Peste is a complete full-faced mask that features a long, narrow, hollow beak. These masks are typically solid white, with round eye holes covered with crystal discs.

The Domino mask is a small rounded mask covering only the eyes and the area between them; Venetian Carnival masks were often called domini since they looked like French priests winter hoods, being black on the exterior and white in the interior. The domino mask is similar to the masquerade mask, but does not have the embellishments and adornment.

Popular colors for the masks were often bright oranges, reds, blues and greens, with darker colors traditionally selected for the mens full-face mask. Masks are still widely used today either during a Venetian carnival, an non-traditional wedding, costume balls, or special celebrations like Chinese New Year and Renaissance Fair. Probably the most favorite use is in the celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Masquerade masks are also commonly used as purely interesting items of artwork. New Years Masquerade balls are also extremely popular celebration-after all, accessorizing with a beautiful masquerade mask to ring in the New Year just seems to go together! More common colors for New Years parties are usually black and white or black and silver, and some people use stick masks for these gatherings as they can be donned periodically. If you are seeking to look quite fashionable and also elegant this New Years, consider the inclusion of a masquerade mask to your costume.

New Orleans Masks

With all the variations on the masks of windows, we cannot think of any reason not to have his horse wearing one. You can get masks with or without ears, a long or short version and a soft or strong PVC mesh, which do a good job to support any rubbing or chewing can occur when your horse is the result. However, you may have some trouble deciding which mask is best for your situation.

PVC is a durable option for a horse fly masks, as it supports scratches and abrasions better than almost any other material. However, the mask needs eye darts or other method of holding the material away from the horse's eyes. We do not like mascara hard to crush the horse, much less rub eyes. And do not want the horse's vision obstructed by poorly placed or designed darts.

The new design of the insect eye mask Kensington places PVC inflated a bubble in the eye area, which seemed a brilliant idea. If Kensington products can find a way to stop press in when the horse rubs his eye area, they will be right on the money.

The horse fly masks also have a fun design to keep the eye area clear. It reminds us of a lady's hat, with the bottom edge of the large cap sitting at eye level with a 0network that goes from there and fit comfortably in the horse's nose for a secure fit.

A simple way to solve the problem of adjusting eye mask is to choose a soft material, such as Schneider mosquito mesh or UltraShield Absorbine Fly Bonnet. The choice of materials is a trade-off, although, as you can sacrifice a little time. That said, we had major problems with the durability and wear these masks, and we prefer the softer material, as we believe it is more comfortable for the horse type PVC materials.

One of the most beloved subjects for the creation of cartoon characters in America is the dog. Countless dogs have graced movie and television screens as animated characters too many to cover in one short article in fact. There must be something special about the comical nature of canines that makes them such ready targets to become humorous cartoon characters, but there have been plenty to choose from.

In the 1970s the creative team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera had their heyday on television. They practically owned Saturday mornings when nearly every cartoon show seemed to be an HB production. The team and their company created over a thousand animated characters over the years and a number of their most memorable ones are dogs.

Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo, where are you!? Anyone who was a growing and television watching child in the seventies remembers the lovable Great Dane with the bottomless stomach and nerves of aluminum. As part of the team of teenagers that trekked the country in their psychedelic van The Mystery Machine, Scooby and his pal Shaggy got more mileage out of one plotline than any cartoon characters in history. Scooby-Doo has aired on television in one form or another for over thirty years and, with the success of two recent live-action motion pictures based on the series, shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. Wed have gotten away with it if it werent for those meddling kids and their dog

Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy

This was a pair made for cartoons if there ever was one. Augie and his dad were two bachelors traveling around and getting into adventures and misadventures with humorous results. Augie was clearly the brains of the operation, but he was never going to reveal that to his Jimmy Durante inspired dear old dad. We never did find out what happened to Doggie Mommy

Hong Kong Phooey

Only Hanna Barbera Studious could have thought to take the 1970s fads of blacksploitation and Kung Fu movies and make it into a kids cartoon show. They pulled it off, though, with this number one super guy that was voiced by the late, great Scatman Crothers. By day hes a mild mannered janitor working at the police station, but whenever theres trouble he jumps into the filing cabinet, dons a mask and a gi, and emerges as a dog in a gi that knows kung fu. Good times all around.

Muttley

Appearing as the sidekick of the eternally villainous Dick Dastardly, Muttley the dog never said a word, but his wheezy snicker rings in the memory of anyone who ever saw an episode of The Wacky Races, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, or Stop That Pigeon.

The subnet mask plays an important role in computer networking. It's used to determine the subnetwork an IP address belongs to. It achieves this by masking the part of the IP address that will be used to create the subnetworks and not masking the portion of the IP address that will be used for host addresses.

Networks based on TCP/IP use subnet masking to split an IP address into two parts; the first part is used to divide the network into logical subnetworks, the second part is used to assign computers, otherwise known as hosts, to subnetworks. The subnet mask and IP address are interdependant; you look at the IP address in relation to the subnet mask to determine how many subnetworks and how many hosts per subnetwork there will be. We will focus solely on class C addresses as these are the most likely class readers of this article will encounter.

The subnet mask looks a lot like an IP address. It's a 32 bit address that's divided into 4 octets; each octet contains 8 bits.

A typical subnet mask looks like this: 255.255.255.192

The 255.255.255.192 address looks like this in binary: 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000

Consider the portion of the address that contains the string of 1's as the masked portion. Consider the portion of the address that contains the string of 0's as the unmasked portion. Understand that with class C addresses, the only octet we're interested in, in terms of creating subnetworks, is the last one; for the 255.255.255.192 (11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000) address, we are interested in the masking and not masking of the 11000000 octet. Here we can see that 2 bits have been masked to create subnetworks and the remaining 6 bits are unmasked and therefore used for host addresses on the aforementioned subnetworks. I will show you how to work out how many subnetworks and hosts per subnetworks this creates, but first I'll give you more of an insight into converting dotted decimal addresses (255.255.255.192) into binary notation (11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000).

How do we get 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000 from 255.255.255.192? It's actually quite easy.

Here's a table that shows you the decimal value of each bit in an octet:

128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1

We can tell by using this table as a reference that:

The 1st bit in an octet is worth 128
The 2nd bit in an octet is worth 64
The 3rd bit in an octet is worth 32
The 4th bit in an octet is worth 16
The 5th bit in an octet is worth 8
The 6th bit in an octet is worth 4
The 7th bit in an octet is worth 2
The 8th bit in an octet is worth 1

By adding the value of the bits represented by a 1 together, we can tell what the decimal value will be. Let's use the first octet as an example. The first octet is represented by all 1's which is 11111111, if we add the 1st to 8th bits, we get a value of 255 (128 + 64 + 32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 255).

Looking at the subnet mask, we have a lot of 1's followed by some 0's (11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000). Consider the string of 1's in the last octet as the portion used by the network for creating subnetworks and the string of 0's in the last octet as the portion used by the hosts for each subnetwork. Remember, the only octet we're interested in is the last one. Think of it this way, we are borrowing a few bits from the last octet in order to create the subnets. The more bits needed to create subnetworks, the fewer the bits remaining to create host addresses within each subnetwork.

It may help you to think of it like this; the more hosts needed in each subnetwork, the fewer subnetworks you're able to create. The more subnetworks created, the fewer the hosts able to reside on each subnetwork. We will go through a few examples, but first I need to explain a little more about class C subnet masks.

The subnet mask for Class C addresses, when not subnetted, looks like this: 255.255.255.0 which in binary is: 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000

This allows for one network without any subnetworks because we have'nt borrowed any bits from the last octet to create subnetworks, and on that one network you can have 254 hosts; so if you had a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask and used a IP address 192.168.1.x where x denotes the range of available host addresses, the range would be from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254. You may be asking, where did the 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.1.255 addresses go? The 192.168.1.0 address is reserved for the network and the 192.168.1.255 address is reserved as a broadcast address. Please note that 2 addresses are always reserved for each subnetwork created, the address at the start of the range is reserved for the network, the address at the end of the range is reserved as a broadcast address. This means if you divide a network into 8 subnetworks, 16 addresses will be reserved; 2 for each subnetwork. Remember this when making provisions for network addresses.

Let's go through a few examples so you can see how borrowing bits from the last octet will effect the number of subnetworks and the number of hosts per subnetwork.

We know the subnet mask 255.255.255.192 looks like this in binary: 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000

Based on the binary notation of the 255.255.255.192 address, it's clear to see that 2 bits have been borrowed from the last octet to create subnetworks, which leaves 6 bits to be used to create host addresses. Working out how many subnetworks and hosts per subnetwork is rather easy; simply take the number of bits used and multiply 2 to the power of the number of bits and then minus by 2. In this example where 2 bits have been used for subnets, take 2 to the power of 2, which equals 4, then minus 2, which leaves 2; so there are 2 usable subnets. There are 6 bits for hosts, so we take 2 to the power of 6, which equals 64, then minus 2, which leaves 62 usable host addresses. This tells us that there are 2 usable subnets and 62 usable addresses per subnet. Remember, each range of addresses within a subnetwork has 2 addresses reserved for the network base address and the broadcast address. Each subnet has 2 addresses reserved for the subnet group address (all zeros) and the subnet broadcast address (all ones).

Based on an IP address of 192.168.1.x and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192, these are the addresses related to the usable subnets

192.168.1.64 (Reserved for Network Address)
192.168.1.65 to 192.168.1.126 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.127 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.128 (Reserved for Network Address)
192.168.1.129 to 192.168.1.190 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.191 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

Let's go through another example.

We know the subnet mask 255.255.255.240 looks like this in binary: 11111111.11111111.11111111.11110000

We can see that 4 bits have been borrowed to create subnetworks, leaving 4 bits for host addresses. 2 to the power of 4 equals 16, minus 2 leaves 14 usable subnetworks each with 14 usable host addresses. Here's a list of all usable subnets and the range of addresses those subnets use:

192.168.1.16 (Reserved for Network Address)
192.168.1.17 to 192.168.1.30 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.31 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.32 (Reserved for Network Address)

192.168.1.49 to 192.168.1.62 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.63 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.97 to 192.168.1.110 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.111 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.112 (Reserved for Network Address)
192.168.1.113 to 192.168.1.126 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.127 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.128 (Reserved for Network Address)

192.168.1.177 to 192.168.1.190 (Range of usable addresses)
192.168.1.191 (Reserved for Broadcast Address)

192.168.1.192 (Reserved for Network Address)

You now have enough of an understanding about subnet masks to be able to provision IP addresses based on varying subnetting situations. Please read my VLSM Tutorial to learn how to use the more advanced concept of variable length subnet masks.

Children’s Masks

Let’s go through a few examples so you can see how borrowing bits from the last octet will effect the number of subnetworks and the number of hosts per subnetwork.

We know the subnet mask 255.255.255.192 looks like this in binary: 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000

Most of us may have the idea of disguising our voice once in a while for some purpose, especially small kids. Today, a wide range of voice changing tools are developed, both for kids and business purposes. Simple ones are masks for kids that can change voice to some other voices, and a small box used for mobile phones which can switch among 4-6 voices or so.

Digital voice changers make a great step further. Any voice or sound that goes through a computer can be changed dramatically thanks to the voice changing software, i.e. voice chat, IP phoning, computer recording, music playing, internet streaming,... There are more great possibilities you might want to discover:

Change voice freely by adjusting voice values. Some voice changing software can change voice by adjusting voice pitch rather than choosing among a limited number of voices. Voice Changer Software (www.audio4fun.com) provides more adjusting possibilities: voice pitch, voice timbre, and voice frequency.

Change voice in real time. Perhaps the coolest function of voice changer software is that it can change voice right a way. Speak to the microphone and you may laugh the first time hearing your strange voice. Chat addicts now can have tons of fun: they can disguise themselves in voice chat.

Change any audio that goes through the computer. If you want to change voice or audio that is played or recorded from an audio device, say, a CD/DVD/karaoke machine, then all you need to do is to get it lined in to your computer and voice changer software will do its part.

Fake identity? So far Avnex, the author company of Voice Changer Software, claims this possibility as an advanced achievement in voice manipulation, although there are still many different opinions on the morality of its applications. So if you can fake someone's voice, what do you think you would do with it?

The entertainment industry has grown in leaps and bounds in the past couple of years and the sky is the limit. The reason for this is because life as we know it has become more stressful and quite demanding, therefore whenever a person gets a chance to get away for some vacation they look to various sources of entertainment to help them unwind. You as an individual can also look for various ways of entertaining your friends and loved ones. One of the best ways to do this is by wearing a funny clown mask. It is a face mask used for entertainment purposes.
Picture yourself planning your kids birthday, the most important thing that comes to your mind as you go about your event planning is that your child and also children attending this birthday are fully entertained throughout this special event. Failure to this will have children acting out and some even crying as they look for something to entertain them. As a parent there are different things you can include in your event to make it lively. The one on top of the list is the tool.
Children are always fascinated by clowns, especially the funny clowns. They always have a way of attracting the attention of children as they show them different magic tricks and funny acts. A clown cannot be considered to be one without a wearing a mask. This is what will differentiate a clown from another entertainer.
As you shop for your mask, you will get to see the wide variety available for you. Depending on the kind of look you wish to achieve you will be required to choose carefully from what is available for you. Out of all the available choices the product always does the trick without fail. One of the most popular choice is the funny afro wig masquerade mask. It has a design produced with a lot of precision which then makes you enjoy a lot of attention as you become the center of attraction in the different balls you attend.
Not only is this one worn when attending costume parties but also during Halloween parties as well as Mardi Gras. When purchasing this one you can have two things in mind. To begin with as earlier stated you can wear it on different costume parties or put them up on display as a collection. In order to turn your costume parties around and have them being more entertaining to those attending it is by placing a dress code which involves the wearing of the one. This way you can even come up with a game as you try to differentiate one person from another.
Size can never be an issue when it comes to this one, this is because it is available in one size fits all. You can therefore buy the funny clown mask as a surprise gift for your loved one and not have to worry about it not fitting them.

Chapter 11.5: Two Girls Upset

"She's coming!" Barbie hissed, sounding panicky yet excited at the same time.

"Quick! Hide!" Nathan waved his hands hysterically, pointing to hiding spot in the corner. He made a run for it.

Barbie hurriedly followed, but stumbled in her high heels, and fell. "Oww!" She cried.

Nathan, seeming as if he appeared out of nowhere, jumped out of his hiding spot and ran to retrieve Barbie. He sighed loudly, then hauled her up. "Idiot." He muttered, loud enough for her to hear.

He practically dragged her away. Just in time too.

Darcy made her entrance. She saw the girls' toilet sign, and headed towards it.

"Shh..." Nathan whispered to the whimpering Barbie. Her ankle really hurt, but she decided to shut up for his sake.

Barbie drew her breath snappish, as Darcy walked past them.

"Shurrup, jeez." Nathan grunted. Barbie glowered, she was tempted to fight back, but chickened out. What was the point anyway? She's only going to lose and no doubt get annoyed too.

But she's already annoyed, so why not?

Her thoughts were interrupted by Darcy's ear-piercing screaming. There were some other screams too. By boys.

Nathan chuckled, watching in delight. Red-faced boys were rushing out, pushing past each other hastily.

"Watch this." Nathan smirked. He delved through his bags, then fished out a tube of peanut butter.

"What else do you have there?" Barbie asked, curious of how many things his seemingly small-ish bag could hold.

Nathan didn't reply. Instead, he squeezed the tube of peanut butter onto some tissue paper.

"Ew, please tell me that's not used tissue!"

"Has your pee ever turned blue?" Nathan suddenly asked.

"What? Ew! Gross. No way!" Barbie moved her head back in absolute disgust.

"You sure?" Nathan asked again, getting up and slowly pushing the boys' toilet open. He ruthlessly chucked the scrunched up tissue paper, covered with peanut butter, in there.

Darcy screamed once more.

"Why isn't she coming out?" Barbie made a face. "Like seriously? Ugh!"

"She's crying." Nathan laughed, his eyes sparkling as he said this. Barbie raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah right." She shook her head in disbelief. What's there to cry about? It's ridiculous.

"She is." Nathan insisted, "Look."

He was just about to push open the door, when Darcy came out. Nathan quickly ran, before she could get a glimpse of who it was.

"Oh my gosh..." Barbie whispered, also making her exit. "Eeeww! Did you see that? That tissue thingy got stuck in her head!"

"Her eyes were red too." Nathan chipped in, "And her nose, and -"

"Okay, yeah." Barbie interrupted, "That's... cool. I never liked Darcy anyway."

Nathan's smirk fell. This startled Barbie, and instantly she regretted those words.

"What's wrong with Marcy?" Nathan snapped, "She's way better than you. You're fake. You're some damn, ugly Barbie."

"I... I... I w-was j-"

"Do you think guys actually like that crap?" Nathan questioned. He laughed unpleasantly.

"No, we don't. You're wearing all this goop -" He indicated to her face with his hand, "It's like a perfect, scary Halloween mask."

Barbie's eyes welled up. She couldn't cry over this! He'll only be satisfied! Plus, her mascara would run down hideously too.

"You know," Nathan stepped closer, lowering his face a little, so they were in each other's eye level. "Lipstick contains fish scales. It's a fact."

He swaggered away, while holding his nose. Leaving a tearful, heart-broken Barbie girl standing alone.

“You sure?” Nathan asked again, getting up and slowly pushing the boys’ toilet open. He ruthlessly chucked the scrunched up tissue paper, covered with peanut butter, in there.

Darcy screamed once more.

“Why isn’t she coming out?” Barbie made a face. “Like seriously? Ugh!”

“She’s crying.” Nathan laughed, his eyes sparkling as he said this. Barbie raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah right.” She shook her head in disbelief. What’s there to cry about? It’s ridiculous.

“She is.” Nathan insisted, “Look.”

The Monkey's Mask

The Monkey’s Mask

He was just about to push open the door, when Darcy came out. Nathan quickly ran, before she could get a glimpse of who it was.

“Oh my gosh…” Barbie whispered, also making her exit. “Eeeww! Did you see that? That tissue thingy got stuck in her head!“

“Her eyes were red too.” Nathan chipped in, “And her nose, and -”

“Okay, yeah.” Barbie interrupted, “That’s… cool. I never liked Darcy anyway.”

Nathan’s smirk fell. This startled Barbie, and instantly she regretted those words.

“What’s wrong with Marcy?” Nathan snapped, “She’s way better than you. You’re fake. You’re some damn, ugly Barbie.”

“I… I… I w-was j-”

“Do you think guys actually like that crap?” Nathan questioned. He laughed unpleasantly.

The Monkey's Mask

The Monkey’s Mask

“No, we don’t. You’re wearing all this goop -” He indicated to her face with his hand, “It’s like a perfect, scary Halloween mask.”

Barbie’s eyes welled up. She couldn’t cry over this! He’ll only be satisfied! Plus, her mascara would run down hideously too.

“You know,” Nathan stepped closer, lowering his face a little, so they were in each other’s eye level. “Lipstick contains fish scales. It’s a fact.”

He swaggered away, while holding his nose. Leaving a tearful, heart-broken Barbie girl standing alone.
